The Greenwood Girls Bantam Softball Team emerged from the exceptional talent at Dwight Ross Jr. High School in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. Inspired by their school success, Coach Don Hyslop formed a community team and entered them in provincial play, despite the absence of a local minor softball association. Registered independently with Softball Nova Scotia, the team quickly became a force, building a historic three-year run.
1977 – In their inaugural season, composed entirely of Dwight Ross Jr. High players, the team swept Halifax’s Jollimore squad in two games to capture their first provincial title. Game one ended on a steal of home, while game two was sealed by a throw at the plate to stop a tying run.
1978 – With four new players from West Kings Jr. High, Greenwood continued its dominance, winning both an Under-16 tournament in Kentville and an Under-20 tournament in Aylesford. Hosting provincials, they defeated New Waterford (twice) and Canso, taking their second straight championship with an 11–3 final.
1979 – With eleven returning players, Greenwood competed in the first-ever Eastern Canadian Bantam Girls Championship. Hosting on short notice, with help from 14 Wing Greenwood for facilities, the team went undefeated, beating Newfoundland and New Brunswick with ease. They captured the Eastern Canadian title, with four players named to the All-Star Team.
